Log On to the NAHB Website: Access More Than 10,000 Pages That Can Help Your Business

July 12, 2010 – The first article in an occasional series on using the NAHB website for maximum benefit.

The NAHB website features more than 10,000 pages of the latest home buying and building information that can help members stay abreast of sales and industry trends, regulations, the latest on Capitol Hill, home technology, business management, member discounts and more – with more than half the pages exclusive NAHB content available to members only.

To tap into this wealth of exclusive information, members must log on to the NAHB website to view their topics of interest.

Logging on is easy and members can log on from any public page on www.nahb.org. They can begin by clicking on the "Login" button in the top right-hand corner of any page.

Members who already have created a website account to access the exclusive content on the NAHB website will be prompted to provide their username and password.

Members who have forgotten their passwords can find a link to the password reminder page on the "Create a Login" page. After they provide their e-mail address, they will automatically be e-mailed their password to complete the login.

Members who have not yet created an account will be prompted to do so when they click the "Login" button. To create an account, members will need their NAHB personal identification number (PIN) and the state where they registered to join their local home builders association. Members can call their state or local home builders association – or NAHB at 800-368-5242 – to verify their PIN.

With this information, members then will be prompted to submit their e-mail address and create an alpha-numeric password. Once logged in, they will have access to the exclusive member content.

NAHB Website Account: Find Your Most Important Information Faster

An NAHB website account is a customizable tool that enables members to find information and topics of interest faster. Essentially, it enables them to customize the website to display their favorite topics more prominently so they can navigate the site quickly and access what's most important to them faster.

Members can edit their personal information in their website account once they are logged on by accessing the "Your Membership" button that is the last button in the gray navigation bar running along the top of the page. This tab serves as the gateway to a member's activity within NAHB and includes a dropdown menu that is activated when members hover over it with their mouse.

Different options will appear in the dropdown, depending upon the association-related activities of the member, with the first option always being a link to the member's profile. This profile page enables members to edit or change the username or password associated with their NAHB website account.

It also lists and enables them to edit, where appropriate, all their active affiliations, designations and content preferences. Members also can review the purchases and resources that have been added to their account.

The "Community" button, which houses all the information on committees, councils and ways to connect with other users, will also reveal expanded options when a member is logged on.

Members' committees and councils, as well as committee- and council-specific information, will appear in the dropdown – making it easier for members to find pertinent information.

The 'Dashboard' Helps Members Stay Informed About Areas of Interest

The "Dashboard" – a panel that drops down from the top of the site's navigation – enables logged-on members to get a quick glance of their most important and current information.

It also enables them to further customize their experience by adding and viewing favorites and by reading the latest messages from NAHB found in their inbox – and generated through the site's messaging tool – about their areas of interest as well as upcoming association activities.

Members can easily add new pages or sections they are reading to their "Favorites," which appear in the Dashboard, and profile their interests and activities. Members can expand or change the list simply by clicking the "Favorite" button in the gray navigation area above the article or webpage.

Share Important Information Through Social Networking and E-Mail

Sharing important information found on the website with staff, co-workers and business associates is now easier than ever, too.

In the gray navigation section atop each page or section, logged in members can find "Share" and "E-mail" buttons that enable members to spread the word through a variety of social networks or through e-mail. Activating the e-mail button pre-populates the e-mail message, but the tool also gives members the ability to modify their message as well.

Members-Only Discounts When Logged In

In addition to viewing the members-only content on the NAHB website, members are also eligible for members-only pricing when they are logged in.

Members can register for conferences or purchase products when logged in, and their discounted NAHB member price will appear during purchasing and at checkout.
