This event marked the 8th annual Framing Frenzy Build which is in conjunction with celebrating National Homeownership Month.
The festivities began at 9 a.m. with AmeriCorps volunteers building the frame of a house to be moved to Frederica for the Main Family.
The Sussex County, Central Delaware and New Castle County chapters of Habitat for Humanity were joined in a celebration by Governor John Carney, members of the General Assembly, Delaware State Housing Authority Director Anas Ben Addi, Delaware AmeriCorps volunteers, the Delaware Association of Realtors, Delaware Health and Social Services, and Home Builders Association of Delaware.
"We know that homeownership creates more stable neighborhoods, forges stronger relationships, and helps more children succeed in life," said Governor John Carney, who presented a proclamation in honor of Homeownership Month. "Working together, we can help more Delawareans achieve the dream of homeownership and keep our state growing and thriving."
"The cost of regulation raises the price of a new home by over 30%. We have to get that cost down if we expect people to be able to afford to own a home," said HBADE President, James McCulley.
Thank you to our President and our members who came out to support this great event!
Education. More than 140 IBS education sessions cover the hottest industry topics. “I was really impressed with how much variety in education there was. It didn’t matter which class I walked into, I could apply it to what I do,” said 2018 recipient Shannon Alcock of Goldmark Construction Group in Raleigh, N.C.
Product Knowledge. IBS draws 1,500 manufacturers and suppliers, which is why it is the place to discover what’s trending. “I was able to get so much product knowledge. I actually met a ton of new vendors that we’re going to start using on our houses. We were able to make a ton of new business relationships, and I learned a lot,” said recipient Anna Fosmire of Crabbe Homes in Clarksville, Tenn.
Demonstrations. Attendees learn from construction demos and interactive programming in IBS Live, and the High Performance Building Zone. “A lot of times, the products just show up from a supplier on your jobsite. It definitely helps to speak directly with the manufacturers for their recommendations and important little tidbits,” said Lynch Christian of Four Points Construction Inc. in Martinsburg, W. Va.
Niche Exploration. The Centrals are fun, educational lounges that allow you to explore new niche-specific ideas and connect with others like yourself. Workshops, presentations, roundtables and networking events are all available at the six Centrals: 55+ Housing, Custom Building, Design Studio, Multifamily, Remodelers and Sales. “I found some great opportunities in the Custom Building Central to make my network stronger,” said recipient Kristopher Gardner of Magleby Construction in Lindon, Utah.
Networking with Young Professionals. The IBS Official House Party and the Young Pros Party are two events where young pros gather to have some fun and network with others in the industry. “It was just amazing to see a lot of the young professionals at the show. Really inspiring,” said Sarah Harne of Dan Ryan Builders in Frederick, Md.
On top of all that, an industry coming together in one place over three days can be invigorating, attendees said. “When I got home, I told my boss, ‘I never want to miss IBS again.’ I legitimately feel like my brain chemistry has been altered through this experience,” said Joshua Dean of Precision Homecrafters LLC in Birmingham, Ala.
